Welcome to Positively Purposed, I'm your host and holistic life coach, Nina Dana Lee, inviting you to a space where we talk about real life with real people who share real stories, either experts in their fields or expertly experienced.

They're giving you the goods that you never even realized you needed during this amazing midlife phase of our lives. So let's get motivated, educated, and you know what? Let's just get started. Hello, Himalaya. How are you today? Hello, Nina Daini Lee. I'm fabulous. Good to be here with you. Wonderful. Thank you so much for agreeing to be here with me.

It's an honor and a pleasure to have my dear friend and colleague join us on Positively Purpose today. So thank you for being here with us. It's always fun to hang out with you.

I have been having conversations with a lot of the ladies in my circle, in my following of women that listen to Positively Purposed and that speak with me about coaching and life growth and personal growth and spiritual growth. And one of the challenges that do seem to come up. Quite often is how at a later stage in life, we manage to make major changes that can shift our whole life.

It can shift our lifestyle. It can shift our actual life. It physical, mental, spiritual, emotional, financial, it just has effects all around. You uprooted your life and moved to Costa Rica with your husband and I would love if you could share with us a little about what inspired you That decision what really sparked it for you and how has that changed your life?

That's a great question. So four years ago,  it was the time of the pandemic. So there was like options floating in the air. And, some people felt like they were in a prison and some people were like, let me get out of this prison and see what else is there.

Every year we would take a trip, somewhere.  The year before we went to Hawaii and, we spent a few weeks there. And so this time we were like, let's go to Costa Rica with the intention of, oh, I wonder if this might be a place that we would like to check out.

So we actually went slow because in our late forties, early fifties, now I'm 51,  there is this trepidation, right?  There's a little, ah, I've done this before I've done big leaps and they didn't always turn out. Although we always know they turn out no matter what now. Right.

but there was this feeling of, let's go check it out. Let's be open to what we feel there. And truly within two weeks, we felt. Oh, my gosh. Let's stay at least for another four months. So we set ourselves up. Something fell into  place.  We now support people to move to places that they desire to be, that they're called by.

And we say, check out a place in a few different locations. So you can really see where your body feels nourished, where you feel good.   So now we're in the third place. Because it just kept showing us, it was like Goldilocks, right? No, nah, and it was too hot by the beach. Yeah, exactly.

So we went up by the beach, so it was really too hot. Then we went into the jungle. Way too rainy and moldy and wet. So then Athenas, where Dani and I live, we are in the perfect climate. We weren't climate seekers, but we definitely felt like we felt a calling. It was such a mix of  spiritual calling as well as, Oh, let's just go see our next place.

Let's go check out another place. And I think what I could say to your question is to follow your heart, like really tune in. I think as we get older. Yes, we're scared to take risks. It tends to be more challenging to uproot our lives that we've known to follow something from deep in.

And that's what I would say is, let yourself get out of the head. Cause the head will always be like, pros and cons, pros and cons. And I'll give you the list. Great. Okay. It gave you the list, but then you got to stop you got to go into feeling and your heart will never navigate you the GPS of the heart will never navigate you incorrectly.

It just won't. , so I had a lot of practice in my life. I really did, follow my heart more than my head,  in moving or trying a new place and all of that. So it was. now doing it in partnership, my partner and I, we both were navigating this place together. So the embodiment stuff that, I've been facilitating for many years now really support it.

Cause it was like, every time I'd get in my head, I would be like, okay, Let's come back into the body. Let's come back into the body. That's okay. Yes. Move the body, jiggle it out, get out of my head, and then come back to this navigation place again. The GPS, listening to that GPS again and again and again.

I think  that's really what's supported. And of course, you and I both know, And maybe a lot of you out there that are listening, you know, that there are many tools to support us to come on into the heart. In fact, right before we jumped on this recording together, I was just talking about the embody Oracle card deck or another card deck, to support the navigating.

Cause it'll confirm. Or show you that maybe that's not the right thing to do right now. So it's, yeah, these are all amazing tools,  movement dance, getting in your body, utilizing, your meditation, all these things will support. You, and as we get older, especially you're speaking to people that are in their older, we've got the tools, use them, you know, absolutely.

And that's actually one of the things I would like to speak about because I know one of the things that you deeply support is following your intuition. And a lot of times as women, we tend to second guess our intuition a lot. We second guess our intuition. We second guess ourselves, the self doubt creeps in,  how do you quiet all of that other noise in order to really follow your intuition?

You just mentioned tools that you use in order to stay on track. What  is it that gives you the strength to say, you know, what, I'm not going to stay in my head. I am going to follow my intuition. I know this is best for me. It feels right. And I'm going to do it. How  does that intuition practice support you?

Well, if we're speaking specifically to women, female body people,  the first thing I'm going to say, it's going to be like really strange to hear for some of you is actually moving your body and dancing. So I'm just going to take us back for a moment to when we were babies. When we were babies, we would move our bodies.

We would flubber our lips. We would make sounds, you know, like we would do all these things. All of those things are to present. Like you'll notice babies, children. Are the most present probably beings that we know right there in the moment. So when we're navigating fears, it's because you know where if the fears are coming up and they're getting in your way, it's like we're either in the future.

Or we're in the past. So to get ourselves back into really listening to our intuition, we gotta bring ourselves right here. And the best way to do that, like, so those of you who are seeing the video, I'm gonna just tell you, I'm gonna just jump up and down for a moment. So I keep my knees bent. You can try this at home right now as you're listening to this, just jump up, get up off your seat and jump up and down a few times.

Open the mouth like you would like a child. Ah, I know it's ridiculous, but notice what you notice just after a few jumps. Like I'm noticing my body way more connected to the earth. My posture has changed. My breath is deeper and now the static has changed. the debris, the debris in the energetic field and the static has faded.

Now I can hear clearly. So if I just take my hands now to my heart and my belly, just to touch my body here, close down the eyes, I can hear clearer. So, to tune into our intuition, so men are different, right? Men can go into, give me that meditation. I'm going to focus on it. I can get there.

And they have an easier time because they're one focus centered, like they're one pointed focus women. We're not, we've got, you know, in the Vedic and tantric cultures, you see all these goddesses depicted with all these arms. Thousands of arms, some of them, right? The reason is because we are, we're able to be multi tasking, multi dimensional with everything that we're doing.

And it really takes movement again, the jumping, the dancing, the letting go, letting yourself just like fully go in order to. Let that static go away and come back in to the quiet voice of your intuition, your inner self. And what is intuition? It's like, it is truly hearing your soul be the leader. So we've got the ego.

We've heard of that. We've got the external voices of our parents and maybe our teachers and our other, authorities throughout our lives. All those voices are ringing. And so when we're trying to make a choice for our lives, and we want to come from that center place, we've got to like clear and static and the best way biggest tool is movement embody.

That's why I love this word so much. I, you know, the embody Oracle deck is called embody  our retreat center here in Costa Rica is called embody Costa Rica. Embody, we really have created an acronym, it's E M B O D Y and the E is for empowerment. The M is for movement. So that's number one, I'll just go back to the empowerment.

The empowerment is you being empowered. So you choosing the tools that are going to support you to be in your empowerment so that You can then impact those around you. You can then impact people with your purpose. Then the M, right, is movement. This is movement, yes, you clear, you dance, you vibrate, you come back into your intuition so that you can get behind a movement of your choice.

To again, make that impact in this world. So I'm really talking to those of you who are called, you know, your shift makers, your change makers, your light workers, you maybe call yourself healers, or you associate with being a teacher or facilitator of transformation, whatever. That is so I won't go through the whole acronym because it'll take just a little bit more time But just know   the first two pieces are empowerment and movement Those would be like the basic tools for you to come on into hearing your intuition Come on into hearing your true soul's voice saying simple words versus like, the mind will be like, and it'll go on and on and on and on and on.

But when we really tune into the intuition, it literally will be one word. It'll be peace or yes, or whatever you're asking. Like it'll just give you that simple answer. And sometimes we don't believe it because we're like, Be so simple. Yes. Right. It feels too easy. Yes, exactly. And then the mind will come in and change the mind.

It'll change your mind. So anyway, I went off there, but yeah, hope that helps. I think that that's very useful and insightful information. And thank you, because I think What tends to happen a lot of times with women, when we feel like we're kind of in that stuck space and we want to make a decision .

We don't know how to do it. Do the opposite. We grab the pole and we stop moving and we get contracted. You're right. Yeah. Retreat. And it's like that protective mechanism that we automatically, our body  is Automatically retreat into when we should actually be doing the opposite. We should actually be moving the energy around and releasing the stagnant energy and opening up to be able to feel  and really empower ourselves to listen to our intuition through movement.

So that's really helpful because again, when we do fall into this stock patterns and those kind of old habits of this is how I deal with problems, but. When there's another way to deal with it and giving people the option to look at, okay, well maybe try it this time next time you're feeling a certain way instead of curling the ball and eat an ice cream, maybe just put some loud music on and dance around your living room and see the difference that it makes instead.

You know what I mean? And so what I like is giving. The information, the education to give options for women to be empowered, to be able to make changes, to find the strength, to listen to their intuition. Something else you mentioned was, you know, when quieting the noise in our mind, you also mentioned external noises from, external sources.

So whether that's our parents or our kids or our partners or. Childhood memories that we're still replaying in our minds and things like that, those types of noises can be very, very influential on us sometimes being able to put that aside and really listen to ourselves as the primary voice of reason  is so crucial.

So it's good. And really when you hear your true voice, it's like, just to add to that is like fire those voices. That have been telling you otherwise and it's so tricky to navigate to because those voices then become in your own voice. Yes. So we really take them on, but it's really good for us to decipher.

And I think as we get older as well, it's like, Oh, it's not my, that's not that I didn't. I wasn't born with that one. Mm hmm. I don't need to keep listening to that. So those highly critical, self critical, self beat up, self doubts, those are, you can be guaranteed that those are not your true voices, you know?

Yes. , and I love when we do feel those voices come in and they do start to take on our own persona, like we start hearing them in our voice. Like they were our original thoughts. How do you release those? How do you silence those voices? Cause it's one thing to silence your own voices, but then sometimes those voices

they can be stronger because you've taken them on so deeply that they've become a part of what you believe their old thought patterns, old belief patterns that you've just kind of taken on. And you know that they're either not true or they have. Validity in your current life. And so, you know, you need to let them go.

You know, you need to release these thoughts  and these opinions and these outside voices. How do you do that, especially when they're connected to loved ones or people that, you know, They feel they have your best interest at heart. And it just doesn't quite align with your intuition with the things that you know, you need to be doing.

I think in general practice, you know, practice that like knowing what the truth is and what is not the truth, what is your truth and some of the other pieces of this particular pathway. is deep self care and self nurturance, nourishment. Because the more we can spend time with ourselves, Journaling and expressing ourselves and really working some things out and then literally like nourishing our bodies.

Ayurveda is a very strong part of our pathway of self care. That, Ayurveda is, just for those of you who don't know, Ayurveda is the Indian medicine. It's the sister, cousin to Chinese medicine. It is from ancient India and it is a path to self sustain your health versus symptomatic like,  the Western medical science where it fixes a symptom that comes up.

This is to sustain your good health and vibrancy. So that you knock on wood, don't even get sick and stuff like that. So it's a natural, it's a natural, beautiful pathway. So the point is like a lot of the practices in Ayurveda are to nourish our bodies on deep cellular levels. So much so that our true inner self and our inner child and our being inside really starts to know.

The truth and know and self accept and self love, not love ego self, but like self love so much enough to know that if this person is saying something to me, or if this voice is coming in to know that it's not true  and to come back to, Oh, okay. I'm choosing to believe  this about myself, I am a good person.

I do care about myself and  whatever your doubt things come in to really question them at that point. , you don't even have to question them once you get to the point where it's like, you're so practiced. It's like, Oh, saw that coming. I have a , perfect example. This morning I was like, I reached out to my girls.

And I was like, Hey, I want to hang out soon., and then I can't hang out this week. So then they're all making a plan. And I was like, so Mo and a half. It's like, and then all of a sudden my, the voices came in up, like, why don't I get to, you know, play? And why don't I get accepted? And it was like, so quick, like, you know, it's my little girl wounding, but it was so quick.

And I was like, Just caught it. I was like, Oh, you silly. It doesn't even mean that you are in love. And I was like, I don't even need to have FOMO. It was like such a good turnaround. Yes. Because in my old self where I would have believed those old thoughts  you know, all the victim around it.

Like, it was so quick this time, because I really have been doing the work over this last year, especially like really nurturing and nourishing myself to. Know who I am and just to feel full in my well that I like saw those things come in and I was like, Oh, that's not true. But isn't that wonderful?

That's the beauty of growth and healing and self nourishment is that It doesn't stop the challenges from coming. It doesn't stop. It doesn't stop all the little negativity from trying to see Ben, but it allows you to see it differently and respond differently. So you don't have  a wild,  emotional reaction to something that's not even really true.

It allows you to respond in a way that says, Oh, okay. And that self reflection and I love how you separated it into love of the ego versus love of the self, because the ego is really just what everyone else thinks of you. Whereas love of the self is what you think of you. And I think that's where the big difference is when you love yourself truly internally, not listening to all those other voices, you're able to really dive into that intuition and use it to help guide you in such a.

healthier, happier way towards like authenticity and being able to appreciate the differences and the decisions and the changes and the pivots and all those good things. It's, yeah, I love it. I love it. And I also love that. You talked about the validation through different tools, like the Oracle decks and the cards and stuff.

And I am very blessed and grateful to say that I, of course, own and embody Oracle card deck and use it quite frequently because I love it. But it is something about that extra validation, I would say, but just knowing that you can look somewhere else and get support in what you're already feeling. So

it's very helpful. It's very supportive.  It's that internal validation in an external source, which is kind of weird, but it's not reliant on someone else. It's still with you because of course you're the one that pulls that out of the cards or  if you're using a pendulum  or whatever you're using to help validate yourself.

So I, I also think that's an amazing tidbit that people can embrace as extra support in those types of decisions. Yeah, I think those things like remind us that we're not alone. Yes. Right? And whether we have Buddha, Jesus, Krishna, Radha, you know, all the deities, whoever, right? Or we've got our oracle card that can represent all of those things.

You know, there, there is an ability, my teacher used to say this, he was like, an atheist is someone who doesn't believe in the invisible means of support. When you open up to the tools and the possibilities, there is a lot of benefic being support that is all around us, whether we can see it.

or not. And the tangible tools like, you know, Oracle Dex and things like that, like those tangible tools support us with this 3D reality that we're in to receive the messages and to be confirmed. And I think I heard you say that it's like that confirmation, like I'm not alone. I am with myself. And then this is an empowering.

You could call it the voice of God, goddess, you know, whatever you want to call it, but it is or angels, these beings, these spirit guides, masters, teachers, whoever, however you call it, they can support us with bringing The message isn't a tangible form for us. Yeah, absolutely.

So in the, in support of listening to your intuition and having moved to Costa Rica for four years ago, and you've made this amazing, huge life change, just what would you say has been  the biggest impact of taking that leap of faith?  In the mature stages of our life, taking that leap, making those decisions, making those hard changes, pulling away from family or friends or whoever you lived with previously or were surrounded by to, to do this.

How would you say it has impacted your life? Oh my goodness. I feel like I'm rewarded every single day. I just, I'm like. Wow, here I am. I couldn't have done this if I didn't get out of my own way, you know, and actually this might be a perfect segue just to the rest of the letters of the embody acronym.

The B, so we went through E and M, the B and the O are sandwiched in between the other four letters, right? So the B and the O stand for breakthroughs and openings. Or, breakdowns. and opportunities. So now this little sandwich is like a figure eight right in the middle. Some things that come to us or some things that are delivered to us that we get fired from a job or we, lose somebody in our lives, like, you know, big changes like that.

They are a breakdown. That means that the universe is showing you that there is an opportunity on the other side. The breakdown will turn into, if we keep treading forward versus getting stopped and going the other way, then we're going to have the breakthrough and the breakthrough will turn into the.

opening and opportunity. And this is sandwiched because when we're on the path of spiritually spirituality or our own listening and our intuition, we're going to be aware that it's not just all roses and peace and fairies and unicorns. It's this breakdown that causes the breakthrough so that we can have the opening and opportunities, the consciousness Of the next phase of seeing.

So our intuition and our psychic eye and all of that gets opened up even greater and it's powerful. And then that brings us to the D and the Y of embodying. These are two words from the yogic path and that's really what my lineage of,  study  and teaching for the last 25 years has been is, So the D is for Dharma, D H A R M A, and Dharma is your purpose, your meaning for living here.

What you came here to impart to humanity, I promise you, you're living it in whatever way you're living it. And then there's a conscious way of living it. And the Y is for yoga. Yoga means union, to yoke, to union. So union with your greatest self. With source with your purpose here and you living it. So like the union of all of that.

So that's like a quick way to go through that acronym before we run out of time. But I just wanted to give you the whole thing before we go. And hopefully that supports you and all, if you want to know more, you can reach out to me. Yeah. Teach more. I, I love it. And I appreciate the full explanation and being able to get through embody.

Absolutely. And I have one last question and we have about a minute to answer it, but it is my question that I asked to all my guests. How do you stay positive during challenging times? A big one to answer in a minute, but you could do this. Oh, so easy. I already said it dance, move, shake my booty. Good. I love it.
